Accurate prediction of machining feedrate and cycle times considering interpolator dynamics

This paper presents an accurate machining feedrate prediction technique by modeling the trajectory generation behaviour of modern CNC machine tools. Typically, CAM systems simulate machines motion based on commanded and path geometry. Such approach does not consider feed planning interpolation strategy numerical control (NC) system. In this study, NC system is modelled cycle time for complex toolpaths realized. linear dynamics axis kinematic profiles are predicted using Finite Impulse Response (FIR) low-pass filters. The corner blending during nonstop segments modeled, first time, minimum cornering feedrate, that satisfies both tolerance constraints, has been calculated analytically 3 any proposed method applied to 4 different case studies including tool-paths. Experimental validations show actual times can be estimated with greater than 90 percent accuracy, greatly outperforming CAM-based predictions. It expected will help improve accuracy virtual models support businesses decision making when costing processes.
